Description: AMEN CORNER tells the story of Margaret Alexander, the strong-willed female pastor of a storefront church in 1960's Harlem. Suddenly all-too-human in the eyes of her devout congregation when her long-lost musician husband returns, Margaret struggles to keep herself (and her leadership of the church) together. She confronts her feelings for this "wicked" man and her wayward son who has lost his faith. Her final reconciliation with her husband purges Margaret of bitterness and gives her the strength to continue her religious mission.

Staging Tip: A storefront church alter and scattering of folding chairs connected to the modest living area of Margaret's apartment. A new refrigerator is her nicest possession. Pay special attention to the acting ability of each auditioner. Singing is important, but the real lasting punch of this show is in its intelligent book.
