The Fix

Information

Show Credits: Book and Lyrics by John Dempsey
Music by Dana P. Rowe

Description: From a new team of writers comes a hard-edged, hard-boiled commentary on the American political machine. Part tabloid, part The Manchurian Candidate, THE FIX is a totally original biting satire ripped from the headlines of today, yesterday, and most likely tomorrow. A popular presidential candidate is dead, and his wife, who has power on the brain, thrusts her son into the political spotlight. Her maniacal scheming is matched by that of her crippled brother-in-law, who will stop at nothing to see the boy elected. Together, the three of them make up one of the most dysfunctional almost-first families this side of real life Washington politics.

With a driving, riveting score by John Dempsey and Dana P. Rowe (The Witches Of Eastwick),  THE FIX is a powerful, nightmarish, hysterical roller coaster of a musical guaranteed to leave an audience breathless.

Insight from the experts Staging Tip: A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR

The difference between archetype and cliche is largely in the presentation. That said, this is a tricky musical to present. The proper style for this show is crucial, to say nothing of elusive. Three little ground rules to consider then: -When in doubt, the entire thing should be presented with a malicious grin. Self-pity has no place in this world. -It should be done at a furiously fast pace. Rent THE FRONT PAGE. You'll enjoy it. -It also needs to be lightfooted. Difficult to achieve at great speeds, to be sure, but neccessary. Confidence is borne of generous rehearsal time. Something to bear in mind. So, when the temptation arises to perform numbers like "Child's Play" and "Spin" and "Mistress of Deception" in a heavy, this-is-my-big-second-act-ballad manner, RESIST. Done with great pretension, this show will sink faster than the cast of THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE. (Poor Shelly Winters.) Keep it light. And remember; this is pulp entertainment first. Not satire. Not life-changing tragedy. It's supposed to be a rollercoaster comic book grotesque. Just keep the hairpins coming. And be sure to throw your arms up on the way down.

Many thanks,
J.D./D.P.R.
