Description: A pop culture phenomenon comes to the musical stage! The Emmy Award-winning 1970's Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math, science and politics through clever, tuneful songs is not only making a small-screen comeback, instructing a whole new generation to “Unpack Your Adjectives” and “Do The Circulations,” it’s lighting up stages everywhere, from school multi-purpose rooms to university and regional theatres all around the country.

Tom, a nerve-wracked school teacher nervous about his first day of teaching, tries to relax by watching TV when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music, through such songs as “Just A Bill,” “Lolly, Lolly, Lolly” and “Conjunction Junction.”

With its minimal band, set, costume and flexible cast requirements, the show may be performed in virtually any space, bringing its infectious zest to a cross-generational audience. Children just discovering the TV series to “Generation X-ers” seeking a taste of nostalgia will delight in this sure-fire entertainment that’s simply good, clean – and educational – fun.

Accolades/
Awards:
The original series received four Emmy Awards. The show received the 1994 After Dark Awards for Outstanding Production and Outstanding Ensemble. It was also a Time Out/New York Pick Of The Week.

Insight from the experts Casting Tip: George, Dori, Shulie, Joe and Dina are figments of Tom's imagination. Each represents a different part of Tom that comes "out of the television set" to help him on his first day of teaching.

Costume Tip: Sets and costumes should be as imaginative, colorful and inventive as possible.
