Backstage: Mulan Jr avalanche and Mushu fire

Hi Julie,

We did Mulan last year for our school show. For the avalanche, I had actors carry white umbrellas from the back of the house down to the stage. The audience saw the mounds of snow heading toward the soldiers. It was a great effect. I also had a snow machine in the catwalk above the stage and dancers on the stage at the same time using white and blue gymnastic ribbons. It worked well.

Have a great show!

In the Classroom: Enchanted Rose for B&TB Jr.

Thx Jason.  There definitely seems to be something amiss with the database running behind the scenes here (I note that the URL you passed me has a different photo# (036 vs 035), and it still doesn't list as a valid photo album on Julie's webpage .. perhaps it's not an album afterall?))

Either way.. I can now see the image. Thank you!

ps. I'm considering use of the MTI blog to track development of our Rose (success or fail). Is that considered a reasonable use of the blog?

MTI Show Support: Aladdin Jr blocking

HI Mike!  It truly depends on your staging area, (stage, cafetorium etc.), but Aladdin JR can successfully be staged  with one set design for blocking as long as you have some sort of levels to represent  different areas and time passage.  The Palace ( throne room, Jasmine's terrace and the gates) can be done in 3 different sections on stage with lighting to help create them, or 3 levels.  NONE have to be complicated. The Marketplace is the perfect scenarion to create a scene larger than life with NO extra scenery, just an abundance of characters and using the house aisles if possible. Jafar's chamber (simply his small table and chair), could be noted by lighting, underneath a balcony if one is created tall enough or off to one side. YOur cave can always be played under a taller level that was used for another area.  Most importantly, it is a set that has to allow plenty of room for movement, especially if you have a large cast. Sometimes it is very helpful to divide the show into 4 stage pictures..how you want the key storypoints to appear, and that will easily help you decide the staging pattern that makes sense for your actors!  cr
