We'd love to start a new musical theater group and perform any of the MTI shows, but the licensing cost and additional fees seem a little bit frightening for a starting company. There are a lot of parameters to determine this fee and it is impossible to know how much a show is going to cost in advance. For organising a first production, the price is an crucial element and the audience is not garanteed for a starting company.
So in order to prevent a financial disaster:
- Is there no indication of expensive vs cheaper productions?
- Is there no coarse approach of the cost per show, like
1 show without orchestra, 200 seats, ticket price free --> X license fee
1 show with orchestra, 200 seats, ticket price 10 $ --> Y license fee
1 show with orchestra, 200 seats, ticket price 20 $ --> Z license fee
We cannot possible do show applications for each combination that fits into our budget?
Can you share your experience with licensing ? Did you have high ticket prices or especially low for this purpose?
If you are an AACT member, you will get 20% off your rental fee, it saved us $120 for our upcoming show.
Hi, Joseph. Unfortunately we cannot become AACT member. We live in Belgium. Can you provide more details of your show?
I run a summer camp and we perform a show at the end, this year is Urinetown. Costs about $85 per day for licensing and $550 for the rental. There is also a $400 refundable deposit when you return the materials.
