It may be a little after the event, but I saw this blog post yesterday on Backstage's Blog Stage. It's all about how 300 strangers 'spontaneously' started performing '96,000' from In The Heights on Universal Citywalk in LA, much to the surprise of writer Lin-Manuel Miranda, who was having a bite to eat in a restaurant overlooking the street.
Miranda was in town to appear in the LA leg of the Heights tour and the event was organized by Flash Mob America, who orchestrate 'impromtpu' public events to promote brands.
The video footage of the event is a treat to watch - seeing how it builds from 3 guys who appear to be just goofing about, until all 300 people are engaged in full-on choreography.
As blog author Jenelle Riley points out, the best part of the video isn't the performance itself, but Miranda's genuine surprise at th events unfolding before him.
Check it out here.
