GMTWP Alumns Rob Broadhurst and Brent Black have a showcase performance of their new musical 'I'll Be Damned' coming up at the Vineyard Theatre next month. I've not seen it yet, but have heard nothing but praise for the piece, so I'm hoping to catch it during it's limited run (July 1 - 18th).
The Jaradoa Theater showcase stars two ex-Xanadu performers; Mary Testa and Kenita Miller. Testa is interviewed in a Playbill.com DIVA TALK special here.
It's great to see another piece having life outside of NYU (POP! had a production at Yale Rep last year, Burnt Part Boys recently played at Playwright's Horizons, and there's probably numerous other projects I failed to mention. Sorry!). This is partly for selfish reasons, but it's also great that new writers are getting these kind of opportunities. Sure, there's no money in theatre. No one has any money right now, apart from Rupert Murdoch and the guy who stole all the space cash from the aliens. But while there's still voices to be heard let's be thankful that some people still want to offer a platform for these voices, and go out and support them.
More info can be found at the Jaradoa Theater website. See you there!
